The Line-in plug-in for Windows Media Player 8 or later allows you to use the inputs of your sound card (microphone, line-in, etc.) as a sound source. Using this plug-in you can, for example, control visualizations with live music.
The Line-in plug-in supports Windows Media Player 8 or later, but it might also work with any other player that supports DirectShow.
